WE HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DRY WEATHER. BACK TO THE DESK. MARISA: DESIGNERS FROM THE UH MANOA SCHOOL OF FASHION ARE GETTING READY FOR A BIG SHOW LATER THIS MONTH. SOME OF THE DESIGNERS ARE HERE IN STUDIO TO TELL US ABOUT IT. LET’S SEND THINGS OVER TO BRIDGET. BRIGETTE: THIS IS A REAL TREAT. WE HAVE JUNIOR DESIGNERS HERE. THIS IS APRIL, JIMMY, AND JESSICA. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU CAN SHARE WITH US MORE ABOUT THE FASHION MERCHANDISING AND DESIGN PROGRAM AT UH MANOA. THE FASHION DESIGN AND MERCHANDISING PROGRAM HAS AN ANNUAL FASHION SHOW THAT IS THE LAST SUNDAY OF APRIL. IT GIVES STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THE CREATIVITY THROUGH THEIR GARMENTS. WE HAVE ONE UPCOMING ON APRIL 28, A SUNDAY. IT IS AT THE ART MUSEUM FROM 6:00 UNTIL 9:00 P.M. BRIGETTE: I THINK BECAUSE PEOPLE WEAR CLOTHING EVERY DAY, PEOPLE FORGET FASHION IS AN ART FORM. THIS IS YOUR PASSION, IT’S WHY YOU ARE GOING TO SCHOOL FOR A DESIGN PROGRAM. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW MORE. YOU BROUGHT GORGEOUS MODELS. YOU HAVE TO TELL US ABOUT WHAT YOU BROUGHT. I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL LINE. THIS IS A MATERNITY LINE. IT’S THE THIRD TRIMESTER. I WANT TO INCORPORATE THE THIRD TRIMESTER. I DID A ZIPPER TO BECOME TO VOTE SO IT IS EASY TO GET OUT AND GET IN. I WANTED TO ADD INTRICATE EMBROIDERY. BRIGETTE: REALLY LIKE THE SPRINGY COLORS. TELL US MORE ABOUT WHAT YOUR LINE IS ABOUT. I CALLED MY LINE CELESTIAL BODIES. INSPIRED BY THE SUN AND STARS. I WANT TO MAKE IT FUN AND YOUNG, BUT TIMELESS. I WANTED TO ADD A LOT OF EMBELLISHMENT. BRIGETTE: IT IS A TWO-PIECE. PANTS WITH A BOOST HE A TIME. BRIGETTE: NOT EVERYONE CAN GET AWAY WITH WHITE PANTS. YOU ARE LOOKING GOOD. JESSICA, TELL US ABOUT WHAT YOU CREATED. SHE IS WEARING ONE OF MY GARMENTS FROM MY LINE CALLED UNDEREXPOSED EXPOSE. I USED A LOT OF CUTOUTS AND SHEER MATERIAL IN MY LINE. ALSO, THE DETAIL OF REFLECTIVE FABRIC. IF IT HAPPENS TO GO UNDER IT, IT WILL REFLECT BACK. BRIGETTE: I DON’T KNOW IF I’M DATING MYSELF, BUT WHEN I WENT TO COLLEGE A FEW YEARS AGO, I TO PART IN THE FASHION MERCHANDISING PROGRAM, THE FASHION SHOWS AT SCHOOL, I UNDERSTOOD WHAT IT WAS LIKE AND THE HARD WORK IT TAKES TO PUT THE GARMENTS TOGETHER. CREATING. IT IS JUST A LOT. WITH YOU BALANCING WORK, TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU ARE DOING SCHOOL WORK, AS WELL AS CREATING THESE PIECES. OF COARSE I HAVE TO BALANCE BETWEEN FAMILY, BECAUSE I HAVE KIDS. IT IS HARD, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO THINK OF A CONSTANT IDEA AND CREATE IT INTO SOMETHING THAT IS PHYSICAL AND TANGIBLE. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY TIME MANAGEMENT. WORKING ON MULTIPLE GARMENTS AT ONE TIME WHILE PLANNING WITH YOUR PROFESSORS AND MODELS. IT HAS TAUGHT ME A LOT ABOUT HOW TO MANAGE MY TIME. BRIGETTE: WE LIVE IN HAWAII. A LOT OF PEOPLE TEND TO NOT WEAR AS MANY CLOSE JUST BECAUSE OF THE CLIMATE. HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT THE THOUGHT PROCESS INTO CREATING YOUR LINE? I USUALLY GO ABOUT IT BY MAKING IT AS PRACTICAL AS POSSIBLE, SINCE WE DO LIVE IN HAWAII AND I LIKE TO DESIGN IN HAWAII. I TRIED TO KEEP THAT IN MIND FOR WOMEN LIVING IN THIS CLIMATE. BRIGETTE: LIVE LOCAL, DESIGN LOGO. WE HAVE A PREVIEW OF ALL OF THE WORK THEY ARE DOING. THE UH MANOA FASHION SHOW IS SUNDAY, APRIL 28 AT THE HAWAII STATE ART MUSEUM. THE COST IS $50 FOR VFP, $20 FOR GENERAL, $15 FOR STUDENTS. FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE ON YOUR SCREEN. IT IS GOING TO BE A GOOD ONE. THANK YOU.
