Beyond Baby Blues: Watch Celine’s Story | I Am Scary Mommy

– I have, my friends have
kids so I knew parenting would be hard but I
didn’t expect to get hit with the post-partum. (reflective music) I wasn’t expecting like, my
husband to like instantly fall in love and then me to
instantly fall on my face kind of thing. (laughing) Like the inability to
sleep at all, or the just, inability to grasp any
concept and the constant fear and the constant anxiety, and the sadness I mean it
was just, it was a little, it was just different than
like, feeling hormonal, there was, it was a clear line for me, there was something’s wrong. I called my doctor, I called my parents, I told my husband, I
don’t like this feeling, I don’t want to feel
this way, this isn’t me. And I want help now. I might of known there was
a line between baby blues and post-partum but they didn’t. So they were like, it’s
normal, you’re tired, this is new, it’s overwhelming,
take a shower, take a nap, yeah, no. (laughs) I put myself in the
hospital because, I mean, my thoughts went to places
that I’m not comfortable with and I didn’t think were
safe for my husband, safe for my child, like I
understood right away that something wasn’t right. – The Motherhood Center
is really one of the first of its kind, clinical
treatment facilities for pregnant and new moms that are
having a very difficult time making the transition to parenthood. It’s a treatment that we
know works undeniably. – [Instructor] And I want
everyone to think about their intentions for today
and why they’re here. – You’re in a room with
women who may not have the exact same symptoms
as you but they’re feeling the desperation that you’re feeling, the lack of understanding
in a community evolves, and you feel support from them, like you’ve never felt before, and there’s zero judgment. (laughing) – You look great. – And the honesty is very refreshing, like no one’s like, oh,
it’s gonna get better, it’s like they say to you,
everyone here gets better. You do leave here feeling better, all of the moms leave
here feeling better but, right now you don’t feel good
and you’re not gonna feel good and I really appreciated
understanding that. So why isn’t there a
conversation had with the family, like your husband has to come in or your partner I should say, and your surrounding people
who are going to be your support system, and then
there is a conversation about this is real and
hopefully it may not, but if it does, here’s some information. This is Chloe Chow Young,
she’s 13 months old, I’m lucky she’s a good one. I’m happy, and I’m
learning every day, right. And like, I’m so, I’m satisfied. I feel good and I use the
tools that I learned here every day, all the time. I think they really saved my life here. They just made me a better person, and, I wanna say they made me a better mom but they didn’t because
I think I was probably always a really good mom,
they just made me understand the definition of what a good mom is. And good days and bad days and sometimes there’s
not such great mommying and sometimes there is great mommying, and it’s all good enough. It’s like, you know she’s
thriving and she’s happy and she’s smart, and I’m
okay and I think that’s, that’s what they teach you here, it’s not about perfection,
it’s about acceptance. (peaceful music) My name is Celine and I’m a Scary Mommy.
